She Wanted Sex, I Couldn’t Push Her Away’: Man Kills Wife with Shovel

A twisted marital tragedy shocked China when a 73-year-old man brutally killed his 71-year-old wife after a bizarre confrontation in a graveyard. The man claimed his wife tried to initiate sex — and that moment of “shame and fury” pushed him over the edge.
According to court documents revealed this week, the elderly man, surnamed Hua, and his wife, Mei, crossed paths near a burial mound in May 2024. Hua told investigators that his wife suddenly embraced him and wanted to have sex. “She grabbed me, I pushed but couldn’t move her,” Hua said. “My mind went blank. I picked up the shovel and hit her.”
What followed was sheer brutality. Hua attacked Mei with both a kitchen knife and a shovel, striking her repeatedly on the head and face. She died instantly from catastrophic brain injuries. Police arrived quickly and arrested Hua at the scene.
The shocking details unraveled in court: Hua had long harbored resentment against Mei, claiming he had been forced into a “live-in son-in-law” marriage arrangement, something he considered humiliating. “I felt trapped all my life,” he told the judge. “She wanted to be my wife in this life and the next. I couldn’t stand it anymore.”
Medical evaluations determined that Hua suffered from hysteria, reducing his criminal responsibility but not excusing it. The court described his attack as “cold-blooded and cruel.”
In the ruling, the court condemned Hua for intentional homicide, sentencing him to life imprisonment and permanent loss of political rights. Although he later offered some compensation to his wife’s relatives, the court found his crime too severe for leniency.
What was supposed to be a quiet life in old age ended in blood and horror — a grim reminder of how resentment, rage, and twisted intimacy can explode into violence.
